When red cells are pre-treated with a proteolytic enzyme to render them suitable for antibody uptake, over or under exposure to the enzyme is difficult to control and many laboratories proceed with reading the test results without a control being in place to guarantee that result.
The simple addition of Checkzyme to all negative results will produce agglutination of the red cells if the red cells have been appropriately enzyme treated.
